"I am not sorry because I am not in the wrong. I did not call for her to be hanged, I did not utter anything racial.

"It was merely a question so I will not apologise," he said at a press conference in Parliament today.

Armed with the copy of the Hansard, Mohamad explained that his exact statement was as follows: "Apakah Ambiga tidak boleh kita anggap penderhaka kepada Duli Yang Maha Mulia Yang di-Pertuan Agong dan hukum gantung pada dia?" (Can we not consider Ambiga a traitor to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and sentence her to hang?)

Mohamad also lambasted claims by the DAP that he had made a racist remark about Ambiga, adding that the opposition party has "run out of issues" to sensationalise.

"I respect my Indian and Chinese friends such as those from the MCA, MIC and PPP. It is the DAP that has run out of issues to play up.

"Perhaps they don't understand the Malay language and that is why they did not know that my statement was actually a question," he said.

On Wednesday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who is also Bagan MP, told a press conference that Mohamad's statement was racist and threatening in nature as it was directed towards an Indian and Hindu woman.

Mohamad said it was the DAP that had played up racial sentiments and dragged the Indian community into the fray as he had not even mentioned the community in his remark.

On Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor saying that the remark was not the coalition's stance, Mohamad said he supported Tengku Adnan's statement.

Lim however maintains that Mohamad's comments on Ambiga is malicious, sexist and racist.

“His (Mohamad) argument that his statement is a question is invalid,” he told a press conference at Parliament lobby today.

Lim questioned why Mohamad targeted Amiga alone and not the other organisers. He said this could be taken as proof that the statement is not as innocent

as it was made out to be.

“He is playing a typical racist issue that targets the minority, she’s a woman, she is a Hindu, and she is an Indian. This is how many Indians feel about this issue,” he said.

Lim brought up the matter to the Yang Di-Pertua under the Parliament Meeting Regulation stating that the comment was rude and used the name of

the King in vain.

Khalid Samad (PAS-Shah Alam) added that Mohamad was playing judge and jury and is looking for an executioner.

He said equating Ambiga with al-Maunnah and questioning whether she should be hanged is a statement.
