Attack ... man walks away as victim falls on to the tracks

SHOCKING CCTV footage shows the moment a woman was pushed on to the tracks at a London Underground Tube station in a seemingly-random attack.

In a clip released by British Transport Police, a 23-year-old woman can be seen walking through Leicester Square Station.

She is making her way along the Northern Line platform when a man walking the other way suddenly shoves her on to the tracks.

As she lands on her head inches from the live rail the man walks away, leaving her lying in front of the tunnel entrance.

Her boyfriend grabs the attacker in a headlock, and as the two fall to the ground passers-by haul the girl to safety.

He continues to try to restrain the mystery attacker as the girl lies bent double on the platform, but the man manages to escape.

The woman was taken to hospital for a wound to her side, but she has since been discharged.

The brutal attack, which took place at around 11:20pm on September 16 last year, was this week highlighted in BBC documentary The Tube.

British Transport Police Detective Sergeant Fin Egan, the investigating officer, said "This was a dangerous and reckless act which could have had grave consequences had a Tube train been approaching.

"The platform was busy at that time on Friday night and I am appealing for anyone who recognises the man in the images or who witnessed the incident to get in contact.

He was wearing a blue shirt and a black jacket as well as a wide-brimmed black hat and orange or yellow tinted glasses.
